Hi, all. Sorry to be interrupting you here in the commercial diving section (where I SO don't belong), but I've got an odd photo I'm trying to identify, and it's been suggested that the necessary expertise may be here. I have no background info at all to offer on this photo, as it's been passed along on SB long enough that the trail has gone cold.

If anyone knows, my questions are:

What is this rig called?

What is it used for?

Who developed it?

Where might there be more information available about it?

Thanks!

the only info I have to offer you is that that appears to be a Sherwood Brut regulator...

very confused by the spray bottle...

Me too! Every time I come up with a theory as to what this rig could be about, I can see one element of it that trashes the theory. That spray bottle is a major culprit in that regard.

I'm starting to wonder if this may be a photo of pressure-testing the rig, but then why would somebody have to be in it at the time? And of course, what about the spray bottle? Very frustrating and yet intriguing.

It looks like some sort of decontamination suit / chamber. Person inside is naked or close to it, and also completely immersed. It is just a guess but I can't think of anything else. The person is probably holding the spray bottle and not using it.

A spray bottle is usually either part of a leak check or holds decontamination fluids. In this case I don't know which (or other?).

I think it's just a diver who lost a bet.

I can think of nearly half a dozen scenarios that might be credible explanations for this photo. None lands as solidly as the quote above, however. :D Or maybe it's somebody who took a dare. Beer probably entered the process at some point.

Hello

I've been aroud a while, worked around Nuclear plants & subs, waste treatment plants and papermills, under ice & mud and I believe this picture is a joke, setup because diving equipment was handy. It's obviously a deckhand testing a prophylactic for whales.

That's how they prepare the four skin divers that you need to circumsize a whale.
