I cant fit into anything off the rack at all. It fits ok but in one area or another its just too damn tight.

I need to get something custom and Scubal is the only thing ive seen so far. I dont want to spend $200! Is there any options?

Ive literally tried every brand on the rack and no go.

scrapdizzy,

I know you said you have tried everything off the rack with all brands but have you tried the Bare Velocity (2006 model) 7/6mm Progressive Stretch? They have a bunch of different sizes, they stretch well and are extremely comfortable! Check the bare website for the sizes they have in production... if I'm not mistaking, you can also get their suits modified if they needs small alterations...

Good luck!

Mike

I only dive warmw ater so a 3mm is all I need and I have tried everything BARE offers as well as AKona, Onneil, Henderson (my shorty is fine Hyperstretch) and a few others like Xcel and Body Glove.

yea but WHERE do you get a custom made suit? I cant find anywhere.
Because you NEED to drive to So cal and go diving anyway :D ... You know you do!!!

JMJ Wetsuits http://www.jmjwetsuits.com/, in Torrance, SoCal, make the best custom wetsuits in town. Many MANY DMs and instructors and hardcore divers that dive year 'round are wearing these custom suits and loving them.

Drive over and get the suit measurements done. Jon, Martha and Jeff are great people. Go diving while you're here.. a boat to Catalina maybe... or shore diving if you're strong. Drive back over here a few weeks later for a final fitting and any adjustments that might need to be made. (Adjustments are fast.. I had next day service :D ). Then you go diving for a day or so in your new suit, and go home happy.

Mine is 3 years old and going strong.
It was $300 to $350 depending on style and accessories, but the neoprene wears like iron and the suits last.

Because no part of the suit has to stretch excessively or compress, I've got 7MM of neoprene everywhere. Warm. Easy to don and doff. Easy to wear.

Because it's a great excuse to go diving!

Good luck in your search.

My wife has had good luck with LiquidFit and Ataln.

With liquidFit Carolyn will walk you through the measuring process on the phone in the comfort of yourr home.

With Atlan you visit a dealer for the measuring, pattern and color slection.

For coldwater suits I give Atlan the edge.

You do need to face reality and plan to spend more for something worthwhile. A custom is about on par with a top of the line off the rack suit.

Thanks guys...now ive got some places to check into!

CLuadette- have you dive the Channel islands?

No rack suit is going to fit many people perfectly. The suits I have fit well around the shoulders (I have broad shoulders), but are a little loose around my lower back and abdomen. Ideally, you want a suit that fits perfect, but you will pay for it. Try a suit that isn't too tight anywhere and see how it fits in other places. In warm water, you don't need perfect fit anyway. My 7/5 is loose around the lower back, but keeps me warm enough in water in the high 50s because the seals are snug enough. And I only paid $120 for it.

Every chance I get :D . Usually twice a month. 3-day live-aboards each Labor day and Memorial day. Day trips to Casino Point for classes or advanced training. Day boats to Catalina, SBI, Anacapa, Santa Cruz, San Clemente.
I'm eager to dive Santa Rosa, San Miguel, and San Nicholas, but exposure and conditions have so far kept me back.

There is a reason that the Channel Islands show up on most TopTen dive surveys around the world... It is an amazing and unique habitat. It's challenging to dive due to temperatures, currents, visibility (can be 5 feet to 100 feet).

The whole crew on the SoCal Kelp Divers forum is happy to answer questions if you want to learn more... or PM me!
