It's very rare that anyone will refuse to accept a card from any agency. The only time it ever happened to me was with an LDS in Maui ... with whom I was trying to book a charter to Molokini.

He refused my NAUI DM card, and my YMCA SLAM card ... so I asked him what it would take to make him happy. He said he only recognized PADI certifications.

My buddy and I laughed about it all the way across the street, where his competitor happily accepted our C-cards and took us to Molokini ...

Walter,

My second question was based on your reply, " Don't confuse bigger with well recognized." So, I asked how much PADI is bigger than any other agencies.;)

There are many factors to decide the size of organization though. I think, the number of certificaton they issue per year can be a good indicator to compare.:D

Walter:
No, I meant what is your point that related to the issue being discussed? No one is agurging that PADI isn't by far the largest agency. They are. The question you raised was which was more recognized. The correct answer is neither. A diver with either card (or one from a bunch of other agencies) will have no problem having the certification recognized.

Bob,

Really? Did he say why?

We of PADI have much better embroidered patches. That's prolly what he recognized.

Next time you're down South in really diveable water, I'll comp you a Junior Bubblemaker course. Getcha all set up. My treat. :crafty:

My guess is simply that there are so many diving customers on Maui that you can afford to be stupid and still run a successful business ...
