NAUI Intro to Tech, versus GUE-F

I'm taking Fundies later in Sept., but since I'm a glutton for training and am considering taking the Naui course at some point early next year, I'm curious to hear from anyone who has taken both. Does such a person exist?

Further, are there any gear reqs between the two courses that would require changing, or are they both cross-compatible (or at least, is the GUE gear list compatible with the Naui list)?

GUE setup is completely compatible with NAUI ...

When I took my first NAUI Tech class (Advanced Nitrox/Deco), the instructor checked out my gear ... which is what I've been diving since my Fundies class a couple years ago. He then looked at what the other guy taking the class had, pointed to my rig, and told the other guy "set yours up like that".

For the record, MHK is currently teaching a 2 day course.

DIRF is 4 full days with a full class of 6 students or 3 full days if the instructor student ratio is 1:3 or less.

The ratio for our class is less, I believe, if that makes a difference.

Not true. 2 evenings of lecture from 6 until 11. 2 days at Casino Point from 8:00am until 10:00pm on Saturday and 8:00am until approx. 4 on Sunday. The swim test is done on a different day to accomodate the use of an indoor heated pool. and we utilize the time on the Cat. Express to review the written exam so in reality Sunday really ends at about 6:00. You'll see next month ;-)

I've found, based on student feedback, that by spreading the class out over several evenings it allows for a couple of advantages:

1) Students don't need to take time off of work;
2) Students get a break to digest the information and tend to ask more questions given that they have an opportunity to digest the material;
3) It reduces the economics of the class by not requiring 4 days of hotel on Catalina Island;
4) It allows for a heated, in-door pool for purposes of the swim test

just to name a few.

PS. Obviously I'm referring to classes I teach in the L.A. area, naturally when traveling the classes are done on a continuos basis as it would be impractical to fly back and forth over 2 weekends.

Mike, I am corrected on one thing: It's a three day course, per your email to me of 7/23, where you said we would have one lecture on Thursday evening, and then the second lecture would be on Saturday evening, the same weekend as the dives. By my count, that's three days.

There was never any mention of a pool.

I'll be sending an email shortly to clear this up.

My GUE-F course (Ed Hayes and intern George Bouloukos) was four full days for three students (8am-6/7pm everyday, sometimes later). We didn't cram all the diving into two days as in MHK's class (per his post above). Diving was spread over all four days, with most of it in the final three days. We were doing anywhere from 3-5 substantial dives per day. Glad for it!
