I travel the US - a lot. As a newbie I try to check out stores in the areas I'm in. I have found friendly, knowledgeable shop owners in most of the areas I go to. A couple of the of the best:

I really like Aquatic Center of Rochester in my home area - Rochester, NY. Very professional, Pool in store, large inventory. www.aquaticcenterroch.com

Scuba Center - Eagan, MN. Owner spent 1 Hr discussing diving, training and equipment when he knew I wouldn't be buying there.

My LDS is great... not the best prices in the world.. but the best service I've ever found... Just one guy that chaps my hide... not that he's a bad guy... just a REALLY BAD SENSE OF HUMOR.

Southern California ... Laguna beach

The shop is Laguna Sea Sports

Family owned... GREAT INSTRUCTORS... Bill Manarow is the MAN

My favorite dive shop is my LDS Ricks Dive-n-Travel Center
http://www.ricksdivecenter.com

They are without a doubt the best dive shop in Arkansas. If your ever up...or down....this way and looking to dive any of the great local lakes, give them a ring. They would be glad to give you local orientation dives.

I wont give URL's for my fav online sources because most of them are already posted above, but I will list them:

Diversdirect.com
Scubatoys.com
Diveinn.com

I never see it mentioned by anyone else, but another favorite of mine is DAN....

http://www.diversalertnetwork.org

They have a lot of great accessory type items, especially things like first aid kits, first aid books, beach mats, etc.

My votes go to www.olympusdiving.com in Morehead City North Carolina and to Red Sea Sports Club in eilate Israel. Both have made my dive life more complete.

Smokey's Diver's Den

Lancaster, PA

These guys have been around since the shop opened in 1959... something must be going right! Awesome staff, and here's the best part... they're ALWAYS diving! Today while four of us where diving, Capt. Dan Crowell was giving a rebreather seminar at the shop, after that everyone from the seminar went diving... which is the same thing they'll be doing tomorrow. If you're in centeral Pa, Smokey's.
