And what is the big deal?

The term Holgarthian won't help you much in terms of purchasing equipment. "Holgarthian" is a set principles (such as minimalism and elimination of danglies, breathing the long hose and so on) and not a prescriptive list of what's ok and what's not.

There is something to be said for both ways. A set of principles encourages change and innovation--with not every change being desireable in the long run. A set of standards on the other hand is easy to describe, communicate and enforce, which was an essential focus in the development of DIR.

DIR also goes further by describing items such as gas selection that Holgarthian doesn´t describe or discuss to my knowledge.

R..

Edit: BTW, here is a link to a short article about the "principles" of Holgarthian diving..... Good read, fairly short.

"DIR": keep living the lie - you'll only disserve yourself; like so much in else in life.
Since this thread has already gone downhill...

Would you like to clarify the "Living the Lie" statement...

If you don't clarify it...it proves that you are just a troll...

If you have a point to make...try making it...maybe others will agree with you.

Diver0001, it was an admirable effort upon your part to get the thread back on course. Perhaps other issues could be taken up in PM's . . . ? ? ? ? ?

Where you the one saying you aren't a troll? There are so many bridges left unguarded I can't keep you all straight.

Now I should mention that my views could be way off because they're based on a small group of people around here. But none the less, I see a lot of people training to make everything exactly perfect but not doing a lot of diving otherwise.

Well, that and the fact that you are a recovering quarrior... or do I need to dig up some IM logs to remind you

Thank you...You have satisfied my curiosity.

This really is too bad. The original question was a perfectly sensible one.

'Living the lie'?? Wha - ?

The origional question was answered.

The lie is that DIR divers are the best divers, that DIR is the best way to dive, and that other divers who do not dive DIR are poor divers. DIRF training is suspect because of the previous statement which is what GUE offers as facts.
