BigboyDan:
Can you prove that GUE offers better courses than any other agency?

Cracker.

Dan,

Believe me when I say that I am not the world's largest fan of the attitude that I see in GUE's books! Most of the ideas in them came well before GUE was thought of but published in a system. Many people are excellent divers and not DIR. I believe that my tech instructor would compare favorably to most of the DIR people that I hear about.

A point was brought up about DIRf courses and the results. This endless arguing in circles has buried it. How does that help?

However, this endless go around is burying a topic that had good conversation going. If you have these issues with the DIR types and want to bring them up, could you find someplace to do it that won't obscure a perfectly good topic?

Thanks!

No we can't...They suck...I'm going back to PADI

At least the PADI guys would have answered this question in 2 pages max............

But you would have to pay for a C-Card to get the answer

*sigh*
BigBoyDan could you please start another thread entitled something like "why GUE are big liers"/"why GUE are satans handymen" or something similar and leave this thread to those who actually want to have a discussion somewhere close to the topic of the threadstarter? Propably not...

I think that all good training should make you take a step back and reconsider the way you´re diving...
After my Rescue class (PADI *gasp*) I realized how lax I´d been in my pre-dive checks when I failed to find the inflator button on a bc during the course. It made me reconsider all my pre-dive procedures and I didn´t dive (after the course) til I´d figured it out to MY satisfaction.
I got entangled in some fishingline just as I was about to ascend from a deep wreck during my trimix/wreck course. I cut myself out without a problem but the first thing I did afterwards was to rethink the value of "safety equipment" and I bought a line-cutter, shears, smb and liftbag.

To my mind, training SHOULD make you reconsider the way you dive, otherwise it was propably a waste of your time and money...Maybe thats just me though...

Since this thread has already gone downhill...

Would you like to clarify the "Living the Lie" statement...

If you don't clarify it...it proves that you are just a troll...

If you have a point to make...try making it...maybe others will agree with you.

I thought we weren't supposed to feed trolls? :58:

Everybody else, I am on page 8 and reading like crazy! Thanks so much for the info I've gotten thus far.

Many thanks for all the PMs, too! SB is just sooooooo awesome!

UP, will you tell me more...GUE preacher, DIR the word...

EDIT: Okay, just finished. This wasn't the spark I thought would get started, but that's the blue, er, blond in me...

Things did get BIG for a while, too bad it was just feathers being ruffled *batting eyelashes*

Ok, so my question still stands... Is the deep sea supply DIR compatible? Will my fellow DIR potential buddies be willing to dive with me in the bp/wings config? My guess is yes, as so many DIR have already dove with me and my funky bC from Italy and my split fins! You bad, bad boys!!!

Scubalaurel,
I've never taken a DIR course. But from what has been posted on this board, and what I've read from the GUE website, the rig of which you speak would not be DIR because the harness is not of a one piece construction.

Simple question . . . simple answer.

These threads can fly away like putting helium in your lift bag, can't they?

If you got the backplate with the Holgarthian harnass it would be ok for DIR. The other harnass is neither DIR nor Holgarthian. I don't know what it is--maybe you can use it for making a modular dog-leash.

The description of the wing uses the word "elastomeric". I have no idea what that is but I doubt very much that most DIR divers would find it praise-worthy....

Also the DIR hardcore would find your inflator too long and they would tell you that the inflate button on the inflator should be on the same side as the mouthpiece. If it has a pull dump on top of all that then your DIR aspirations would fall in the water (as it were).

Personally I don't see anything really wrong with that wing but then again I have no particular need to conform to the standard. If you feel that being DIR compatible is important to you then you'll need a different wing, I think.

Will my fellow DIR potential buddies be willing to dive with me in the bp/wings config?

I've met few DIR divers who are as chauvinistic in person as they are (made out to be) on the internet. There are some but there are always some......The question should be would *you* dive with *them*?
