One of the (few good) uses for a buddy is...

couv

You revel! :D …Not only are you a DIY, but I see a hint of solo diver here…
Next I you will be diving without a BC and maybe a double hose regulator is in your future. :D

Yeah…I agree with what you are suggesting…

Luis-mon frere,

You see a hint of a solo diver? BC? I have no intentions of going to British Columbia and I sold my Nemrod Snark II three years ago....Solo diver indeed!?....Next you will be suggesting I could use an old aviation O2 bottle for deco.

On a non related subject...are oxygen safe rebuild kits available for the old half inch pipe thread valves? Just in case someone had a bottle that required a scuba valve?

One month ago, I tried my reg in a pool and gave you my first impressions. This week end, I did a real check outside and here's other thoughts.

Last time I said that the way the 2nd stage and the octopus were connected to the 1st stage, I always felt something was pulling thereg out of my mouth. I switch the 2nd stage and the octopus and that was way better.

However, because of the position of the two hoses and the turret and swivel mounting on the 1st stage, it is difficult to maneuver the valve on the tank.

I will try other configurations to see if it is bettter.

Now the big deal...

Each time I open the pressure I hear an unpleasant hissing sound coming form the 1st stage. I told it to my LDS and he said that it happened to him too with the demo he had. Also, one small disc of caoutchouc on the top of the 1st tage blew up when opening the tank. The reg was now no more environnementaly sealed, thus not suited for very cold water. They indeed had a freeflow (water temp around 39F)

That is what happened to me. On the second dive, that disc blew up when I opened the tank. I dove nontheless, but we stayed over 40ft. The water temp was 50F. My buddy stayed slightly behind me to check periodically my 1st stage. Nothing went wrong. The dive was a charm.

Have anybody heard of this malfunction?

FYI,

Today me and my wife recieved our two SR1, and BOTH blewed up at the diving site when the diving instructor open the tank. LOL.. both regulator are not even in the water yet.

As Xaryo describe before, both of the SR1 we recieved start with 1C for the serial.

Fascinating....

Tell us more, if there is more....

LOL.

So we are all at the beach & excited about the new SR1 that we got. The assistant coach put the regulator on the tank for us (BTW, fresh out of the box) and when he turn on the valve we immediately stated to hear a hissing sound. So the assistant coach turn the tank valve off and call the head coach over and as he turn on the tank valve the second time the Sherwood plastic logo on top of the regulator just balloon up and popped open.

With shock and amazement he turn on the second SR1 on another tank and the same hissing sound happen again with the Sherwood logo balloon up again, LOL... but this time he hurry up and turn off the tank valve and release the air so the logo plastic didn't pop open.

My wife got freak-out and decided to return the SR1 and go for the SP Mk25/S600. And personally I am tempted to go the same way too.

I also own a Sherwood SR1. I've been diving with it for about 20 dives now. Been as cold as 45*F and as deep as 90'. The SR1 performs great. The other day, my buddy turned on my tank valve and we all heard a loud "pop". No hisssing. He turned the tank valve off and we inspected it for any problems. No visible signs. We turned it on again and we didn't hear anything. I went diving and nothing happened. After hearing these stories though I'm scared that the seal might have popped...is there anyway to know for sure without opening the first stage?

The rubber peice of the first stage bulges like always just slightly, so nothing seems abnormal with that. After diving, it eventually regresses back to its original form. I have not noticed any change in the breathability either. I guess I should bring in to my local dive shop, but I'd hate to pay for overhauls if I don't need them. Oh well...

If it is on the garanty, it should'nt cost a penny.

Egad, that's a homely regulator. Is that made for Texas Rangers with big red mustaches?

It would truly be ironic if this is Sherwood's 1st attempt at a "state of the art" high performance reg after years of bulletproof simple med-performance reg, and it turned out to be a pinto or corvair or audi 5000.
