I hope to be making a(nother) trip to NF Lake in a few weeks. Interested?

Green_Manelishi:
Deeper than 90ft and very close to a shipping lane.

You -can- do the dive at 90fsw but the real average depth is around 110 -> 115fsw.

It is close to the shipping lane.

if its 90 FT then i can go ... but i dont want to go over 90 at this point ...
i need some more dives under my belt and my deep water class.

Soggy:
The U-853 is basically a 125 fsw dive. I would say AOW, Nitrox, big singles, or double tanks are a bare minimum to do the dive.

ok then .. this is a dive that is not for me at this point ...........
I would love to dive a sub .. but i know this is WAY over my head at this point sooooooooooooooo i cant go at this point ..... :)

At 90' you touch the top of the conning tower. The top of the main structure is at 115' - 118' and the sand is at 124'. The only way this would be a 90' dive is if you descended down the conning tower mooring line and stayed right there. There are days when you can't see the top of the structure from the top of the conning tower. The last few times I have been out there was only 1 mooring on the conning tower but in years past there were multiple moorings. There are degrees of difficulty for the same depth at different sites of course.

I would say a night dive on the Poling is a good step prior to a day dive on the U853.

If its still warm enough to dive wet I might be interested in dropping in for a dive or two. My first dive for OW was shortly after ice out on Winnipesauke and in 43 F water, so I like to think I have some idea of what I'm in for. ;)

I've heard the temperature below the thermalcline is pretty constant year round, but I've never gone to check for myself...

Thank you for confirming that it is a deeper-than-90ft-dive.

My buddy's puter tracked a very dramatic drop in temp at the thermocline. If memory is correct it was quite a bit more than a 10degree shift in less than 1 ft.
