A breathing device that would extract oxygen from the water: you will have to carry only a small ammount of nitrogen/helium that would be recirculated and combined with that instant oxygen as needed.
 
I'm waiting for a underwater GPS system.
Hollis has the closest thing... I will try and post a picture of it.

They have been around for a long time and can either warm or cool a diver. I used one in the mid 60's.

Just drink plenty of water before your dive...the pee warms the suit very nicely...


As for other inventions, how about surgically implanted gills?
 
A tank the size of a thermos with the same bottom time at a 100cf tank...

These are widely available now. Problem is you need to attach them to a re-breather for them to be much good bottom-time wise.
