Kate... don't listen to all these warm water wussies. SoCal is perfect for diving wet year-round... even down to 48 degrees (the shivering will warm up your muscles and keep you warm). San Diego does tend to be colder than my home (Catalina Island), but as Teamcasa can affirm, it does reach 48 F here on occasion. Heck, most of my wetsuits are full of holes (I like them to be "water conditioned" so I don't over heat).

Since you will be down there, and possibly diving the wrecks and the deep canyons, I'd keep the dry gear until you have a few dives under your weight belt in those waters. Then you can decide based on your own experience.
