Depends on which side of town you end up on, two clubs to check out: Home and Tauchsportgruppe Waiblingen e.V. - ..wo Buddies zu Hause sind they both do meets, pool training and trips - both local and abroad.
And for the water temperature here, dry suits will be your new friends. The local manufacturer is Kallweit Trockentauchanzüge - perfekte Passform made in Germany, but the local dive shops are well stocked with all relevant brands. The local dive show is in September down near Lake Constance (Interdive).

"safe diving!" in German is "Gut Luft!" (good air), btw.

The lake of constance has some great dive sites and is about 1 - 2 hours from Stuttgart. Don't be afraid from deep, dark and cold dives

A little more south you have tons of lakes in Switzerland
I second Lake Constance but it's cold. Also, keep in mind that most European Countries are smaller than American States. We used to drive from Southern Germany to the Italian coast in less than a day.

I am a Florida native but man, I just loathe the heat and the people in South Florida. This is only for about 3-5 years so it'll be a fun adventure.
Enjoy the seasons, that fact that within either a 4-6 hours drive or a 1 hour flight you are in countries with complete different cultures and a complete different landscapes.

You have to do what you have to do. I didn't end up living where I wanted to be, but such is life. I'm always cold, so seek heat like a reptile. Not keen on people though! Enjoy.

Don't miss out on Adriatic.
It's a longish drive, especially during summer, but diving is awesome.
Reefs, wrecks, corals, deep, take your pick.
And let's not forget Budapest! It is the only city I have visited that I want to go back over and over again. And that comparison includes places like Venice.
Within the city you can dive a flooded mine or a cave. You do need to have experience though.

I will actually be moving to Germany in January as well, albeit from Las Vegas and not Florida. We will be at Spangdahlem Air Base closer to Luxembourg but I would definitely be willing to meet up and do some diving in the lakes @heftysmurf. I am a NAUI instructor as well so if we need to work on classes while there, we may be able to work something out, once I figure out the local laws and such. Look forward to seeing you underwater!

Rad! I just got my orders on Monday after a month and a half of delays. same user name on the Gram feel free to keep in touch!

I've moved a total of 24 miles in the last 22 years and when I was enlisted, I didn't have anything so PCS'ing was no biggie. Now, at 46, I'm spazzing out! But it'll be groovy. One step at a time!
