New to diving and to SB

Greetings from Berlin, and thanks for letting me join here. I am new to diving and to the board. I had gotten a PADI OWD cert in 1996 in Hurghada as a teenager and then never dived again.

Late 2024 I discovered I still had some vacation days I needed to take and decided to go back to the Red Sea and do my OWD (SSI this time around). Now I am completely obsessing about diving, barely thinking about anything else. We’re going back to Egypt in march for another week of diving, I’ll continue with my SSI specialties here in Germany throughout the summer. I guess I know what I’ll spend my free time and money on going forward.

I haven't been to either of those places, but hear the Red Sea is amazing... what kind of diving is there in Germany?

Also, yes, I feel like most of my purchases are in some way related to scuba and/or traveling!

The Red Sea is great, and the closest great diving destination from Germany.

Diving in Germany I’ll be experiencing in May for the first time, but it’s mostly sweet water lakes with flora and fauna like in the attached image. Many of the lakes are former mines. It’ll be a good way for me to gain some experience and consistency in diving without having to fly to another continent.
