So much depends on your breathing rate. For a ballpark exchange of 2 liters, the difference in consumption between a 2.5 second inhale/exhale (5 sec total) and 3 sec each is substantial: 0.85 cuft/min vs 0.7 cuft/min. 4 sec each will hit the average value in the ongoing poll here on SB.

Take a minute to mentally "slow down" and relax before descending. Breath with your diaphragm (aka "belly breathing"). Comfort in the water will also help and usually comes with more experience.

Welcome! You could also look into 135's. That's all I use now, I can do 4-6 dives on one tank, but I just do spearfishing. We dive from Louisiana to Florida, and I live in Mississippi.

Thanks. I'll see if I can rent one somewhere. I'm hitting all of the dive quarries in Alabama to get more experience. So far, Ive only used Aluminum 80s.

Dude go and find an ocean somewhere, that will give you something to breathe about

Hey congrats welcome to the forum, I’m currently living in Birmingham but all my diving has been on trips around the Caribbean, I’d be down to check out the quarries sometime if you ever need dive buddy.
