I’m currently in between “real jobs” and working from home for a little bit. (Well, actually I don’t do any work at home – I spend a lot of money at a local coffee shop.) The lease on my house here in New Orleans runs out at the end of June, so I have to move. I was originally thinking of trying to find a short-term (six month) lease here locally. Then my father pointed out that I don’t have anything tying me here at all and suggested that I go do something new and exciting.

At first I thought about buying a sailboat and moving onto it, but it would be a bit of a financial stretch and just isn’t going to happen. So now I’m thinking maybe it might be nice to move to central Florida for a bit so that I can at least go cave diving once or twice a week.

I’m curious to know what people think. A good idea? A bad idea? A really really stupid idea? Any thoughts?

GO GO GO GO GO...

I would KILL to be in that kinda position...

GO GO GO GO GO...enjoy life, become a dive store bum, dive and meet the local community, plus half the members of SB live in FL as it is so you might as well move down! :D

Yes, you MUST take advantage of moments like this when you have nothing tying you down and you can just up and go. I don't regret any of my crazy moves. I only regret not doing some of the ones I chickened out on.

If you dont do it I will personally hunt you down and w00p you with my regulator hose.

You only live one time. :)

I envy you having the freedom and at least some of the money to be even considering such a move!

I think its more the freedom. My sister was working as a cook in a college in Maine. She got tired of the cold winters and took a trip to st. croix (its pretty cheap some times of the year) and never looked back. Shes now a Chef in a resort. Only thing that irks me is for her birthday I took her on a discover scuba. She loved it so I got her all her books and class for OW and she hasnt finished yet! That was 3 years ago. tsk tsk she dont know what shes missing :)

I have several x-friends who dropped everything (career, friends, etc) to move to Florida. It happens more than you think. Expecially once they catch the scuba bug and start to burn out on their careers.

then when? I think I personally kept UPS in business when I was younger with my long distance moves.

I think it would be highly irresponsible to move south at such a young age. You will likley become a beach bum and have no motivation to excel in buisness so that you can retire and move south.

If anything you should move to North Dakota or such. I live in Washington and work my *** off every day just so I can go to the carabien a couple times per year.
