The Fish Hopper (best clam chowder)
any one of Pisto's restaurants although those are a bit formal for a post-dive meal
and there are a few others out of the way

passion fish in pacific grove is always nice.

whatever the name of the all blue restaurant on cannery row with nice views has a delicious tuna steak.

schooners bistro on the bay (at the monterey plaza) is nice for lunch too.

Happy Dragon (on Fremont) Great Chinese food; great service
Clay Oven (Indian food, good buffet, service is eh, food is good)
Indian Summer (great one; AWESOME ambiance; eat outside!)

I like the meat at the deli at the end of BW, but the ATM never works and the sides are really gross.

Fish House is awesome, though pricey. I go to Vivolo's, which you listed. I'll just pop in anywhere that looks good, really. Oh, that little place right near MBDC has good calimari.

And of course, if you're a cheap barstard like me, Safeway ;)

FOOD...! What a great topic!

Chili Great Chili Intl.
620 Lighthouse Ave
Pacific Grove 831-646-0447
(Don't be fooled by the name! This is by no means a 'chili house'! Great international cuisine, fun atmosphere, reasonable prices!)

Sea Harvest Fish Market
598 Foam St
Monterey 831-646-0547
(Great seafood, very casual setting.)

English Ales
223 Reindollar Ave
Marina 831-883-3000
(I don't know much about their food, but I like their brews!)

Epsilon
422 Tyler St
Monterey 831-655-8108
(GREAT Greek food! More upscale than the others I listed, but not "snobby".)

If (when) you try any of our recommendations, please give us your opinion(s).

Ciao, Jeff

Since someone mentioned RIBS...

Smalley's Roundup Restaurant
700 W Market St
Salinas 831-758-0511
http://www.smalleysroundup.com/

It's conveniently located on the south-west side of Salinas -- GREAT ribs!

After a long day of diving I have no desire to fight for parking in the Cannery row area, so my usual eating spot is Anthony's del Monte Express on Fremont St next to the Travelodge. It's super easy to get to and it's close enough to Monterey that if you have multiple carloads of divers, you don't have to convoy too far to get there.

They have excellent burgers, all named for a railroad theme, fantastic chili, chowder, and greasy slabs of texas toast with every bowl!!!

Another vote for the Sea Harvest. They have a part of the building set apart for selling fresh fish. It sounds bad, but the Sea Harvest is always on my mind the second dive of the morning.

Another vote for Vivolo's.
