Has anyone ever dove either the Milwaukee or the Tiffany in the Straits of Mackinac? They are supposed to be schooners that are close to each other, SW of Waugoshance Point in Lake MI, near the Cayuga?

I've dove the Milwaukee (and the Cayuga) but isn't the Milwaukee that's practically under the bridge and that you locate off a street light on the bridge?

My bad. I always get the Milwaukee and Minneapolis backward.

You correctly corrected yourself, but good memory with using the street light on the bridge for the Minneapolis. The Minneapolis is one of my favorite wrecks up there.

The Milwaukee and Tiffany are supposed to be 2 - 3 miles west of the Cayuga, far out of sight of the bridge. I've only seen it referred to in the excellent Feltner book on diving the Straits, which is older with Loran #'s.

Years ago I tried arranging a charter for the Cayuga and the Milwaukee and Tiffany. No go. The biggest drawback was the lack of a boat lauch the charter operators could use. (That is if all my synapses are firing this time!)

Good luck!
Paula

If I ever get good numbers and make it out there, I'll post a report.

Here they are::D

TIFFANY N45 43.370 W85 13.760
MILWAUKEE N45 43.500 W85 14.850
CAYUGA N45 43.190 W85 11.360

That's a 28 mile trip from Mackinaw...2 miles more than the Monrovia from Alpena.

Thanks Paula, Stan and Joe. Sounds like it would only be worth it to visit them if you were out to the Cayuga, as Feltner suggested, and that the Milwaukee is a bit more interesting than the Tiffany. Thanks again.

If you had a small boat or large inflatable you can launch out of Cross Village which is much closer. The ramp is not protected from the weather. If you did launch there you could also dive the Lucy Clark in 63ft. of water only a mile from the ramp. Also Harbor Springs or Petoskey are much closer than Mackinaw City. Good luck on your diving.
