I am not too concern about the reliability of the swivels, but I don’t like the hose moving around.

Where did you find the fixed 90 degree adapter? I haven’t seen that type of adapter. Do you have a link to a web site where they are available?

Thanks

I don't have any, but I've seen them, both on standard regs (a post on TDS, I think) and on a friend's KISS rebreather. So I know they're out there. I'll see if I can dig up a link when I have time to search.

HI Luis. We have completely stopped using the swivels due to reliability problems. Most of our customers (actually a lot of them) are now using the 88 degree elbow from Dive Rite. Take a look a the the link for a close-up picture....................

Dive Rite RG1350 Right Angle Regulator Adapter

It is a little less painful if you buy it before Midnight March 2, 2008 and use the discount code FIRST30. This is a nice piece of hardware....the price is really speeding, but it is nice.

Actually, the adapter I was referring to attaches to the first stage, not the second stage. Little screw in guy that just puts a 90 degree bend in the output, then the hose screws into that instead of the first stage.

I've never figured out why Dive Rite charged so much for that part? $55 bucks for a right angle 9/16th (I think that's its size).

This should be a $5 or $10 part.

I can prob pick up a brass one at Lowes for $2.95 in their air compressor fittings department.

(note..... I know it's not you who sets this price this high but Dive Rite.... just kinda ridiculous)

Thanks Phil, but like CompuDude said, we were talking about the other end of an LP hose, next to the 3/8" first stage port.

Here is the type of fitting I would like to eliminate or replace, but I don't realy see a major failure mode with it, perhaps a small leak or similar.

The 9/16" o-ring seal part is easy....its the other end that is not standard beyond the scuba industry. That price is all about volume (or lack of it) and nothing more. I wish it was cheaper, but wishing doesn't help. Maybe I can put my designer-friend on that task. Even then, the volume is the killer.

Thanks for your info Mark. It's looking as though maybe these hoses are only known in the UK.

Nope, we have them here in the Netherlands. My local dive shop is pushing these. The guy who works in the shop and is a pretty experienced tech diver is certainly a fan. I'm certainly considering switching over to these things - though some discussion amongst the DIR community might be in order first to see if there are any potential problems which need to be considered.

Try asking Miflex for a bit more discount.... I'm sure they'll be happy to make up for their losses by charging their UK customers even more through the a**e.... :rofl3:

Miflex doesn't sell them to LDS's direct in the US. They use XSScuba as their distributor.... So I'm sure they are involved in the price.

Also, if they are made in the UK, the value of the US dollar going down definately plays into scuba gear made in Europe as it cost more now....

I've noticed several scuba items made in Europe have price increases in the last year or so. I wouldn't be surprised to see them go up again.
