I am getting a gauge to hold my psi and my computer. I have the option of getting the miflex hose for only a few bucks more than the standard hose, and I love the idea of saving some weight and making the gauge easy to move around. However, will the gauge just outweigh the miflex and make the gauge flop around or sag down and make the gauge a hassle to read and deal with?

:idk:

Recommendations?

The thin Miflex hose is crap in my book. I had two fray close to the first stage. No more Miflex hoses for me. Now they sell them with a hose protector. If it needs a protector, then I don´t consider it a good design. The Phantom HP (not thin though) has worked very well for me.

There have been several failures of the Miflex HP hose. A guy reported both of his burst on a trip in Indo. Bad time for that to happen. Miflex LP hoses are great, HP stay away from until the figure out the fraying/bursting problem.

+1...

And why would the gauge weigh down the hose or cause it to flap around? The gauge should be secured with a bolt snap and clipped off whenever it's not in your hand being read. How do you secure your gauges now?

I've had the HP Miflex almost ever since it came out without problems, but with all the reports I'd probably go with Phantom. The Miflex locks the gauge so it cannot be rotated, so you have to orient the gauge before pressurizing.

I use this:

It's always worked well. So what I was wondering was is the gauge would outweigh and pull down on the miflex hose between the clip and the actual gauge.

I talked to a tech at my LDS the other day about this, and he says he hasn't seen one failure yet. I had intended to buy a new one for fear of the miflex failing, but he convinced me not to. Hope he's right.

Given the failure history and general floppiness of the Miflex HP hoses, I'd go with the Phantom. I like the Miflex LP hoses for my bungeed secondary regs and my wing inflators. The longer hoses pack nicely for travel, but can develop a memory and become a pain to stuff if you're using them for sidemount or stage bottles--I've changed back to the rubber hoses there.
