You do hear about more trouble with the HP miflex. The newer ones with a little strain reliever on them are supposed to be better. I have a 6" one on my pony bottle bent in half and have no problems.

Here is how I would decide - they coil up smaller and are smaller in the bag. If that is of benefit to you in packing your bag/reg bag, go for it. If not, you'll be fine with the rubber hose.

i had all my hoses changed in may(larry @ key largo dive center recommended milflex)with my annual atomic reg servicing, with milfex LP and HP. use 100HP steels filled to between 35-3800LBS, over 100 dives since, no issues whatsoever. terrific hoses in my view(so far!!),,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Haven't seen any issues with the Miflex since they changed the design. But I went with the Phantom for my personal rig, due to the larger diameter of the HP hose.

I have had the new style Milflex hose since they came out with no issues. And they do turn when pressurised.

Does anyone have a preference between the different brands of Miflex? My LDS sells Trident hoses.

Trident and Miflex are two completely different types of hoses and manufacturers

OK, sorry about that. My understanding was that Miflex was the brand name, but that it was also the term used to describe similarly flexible hoses. Like Kleenex or Vaseline.

I'm convinced the problem with the HP Miflex is directly related to the small diameter. A wider pipe just resists flexion and torque stress better than a narrow one. A lot of the failures occurred at the ends where the fittings are, which is why they're now providing shock absorbers. That should help with the flexion stress but it won't do much for torque stress. There are reports of failure even with the new design.

I'm an editor at the dive newsletter Undercurrent, and we're actually looking into doing a story on Miflex HP hoses and issues surrounding them - a few readers have complained that they've broken both at the crimp points and at the middle, and sometimes during dives.

I was wondering if any dive shops don't sell the Miflex hose because of the concerns, or at least warn customers about them?

I'll add my experience now. Just had my HP miflex hose burst in the middle on me as I hooked up my second tank for a night dive. I hope it gets replaced under warrantee. I did like it as others stated for travel - all the hoses coil up nice for a small package. I had a 24" hose with pressure gauage cliped to my belt.
