I was on the same flights as you!, I ended up waiting around baggage claim for my friend who flew in American. He landed 45 minutes after us, but then they shut down two of the stations and it slowed to a crawl! One desk kept closing to go check in private jets that came in. I think I spent a total of 2 hours waiting for him after I got all my stuff so things slowed to a crawl! but the good news is our shuttle wait was short, we were taken right out and were first on, then it loaded up within 5 minutes and we were off.
You're an amazing friend, my friend would have had to join me wherever I had been having tacos and beers for the past two hours.

LOL, to be honest, in my mind since he landed 45 minutes after us, I figured he was going to be out and ready to go 45 minutes after me. By time I wanted to bail, it was too late and he as on the last turn for the desk!

Meanwhile this is why I dread going through third world airports, like Miami

That's obscene.
I remember vividly, one time before 9-11, that Miami line was so bad…they just let everyone in mass go thru with no check.

Reason #526 for me to avoid MIA at all costs
