A memorial dive on the wreck of the "Lawrence" was completed on Saturday August 18th 2007. The diver being honored was Ron Hanley from Arizona who was a good friend and dive buddy of mine. Ron lost his life on February 24th, 2007 from a serious case of Decompression Illness after encountering some problems at depth which caused him to surface rather quickly form 200fsw approximately 10 minutes into the dive. A tangle in his reel started off what became an out of control ascent from depth missing all his decompression stops. He was given oxygen and rushed to shore and then by ambulance to a Deerfield Beach hospital where he later died in a recompression chamber. Ron was a great guy and very enthusiastic tec diver. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and had the pleasure of diving with him. A memorial plaque was placed on the wreck in the starboard forward hold comemorating his life. Plan your dives, use good equipment, maintain it well, watch your air consumption, follow the rule of thirds, and remember... equipment is expendable...you are not. A dive that starts off bad will likely only only get worse. Call it till the problem is resolved. Be safe, see ya below
