I see that the canon a610 and a620 appear to be the same camera other than the mega pixels. If I am not printing large photos or really I should say never printing photos and mostly posting photos to the web, do I really need 7.1 mp's or will 5.1 be good enough other than the cropping disadvantage? Does 2.1 more mp's add more quality to a photo that the naked eye will be able to see in a smaller photo on a web page?

I currently have the canon a80 and just bought the a610 and am wondering if I should have paid the extra 100 bucks for 2.1 more mega pixels that I don't need if I am not printing photos. I will say that the a610 beats the a80 with a stick! Amazing features for under 300 bucks. The shutter lag is very quick compared to the a80.

One more question...What do ya'll think about the underwater setting? Does it really help to use it? I haven't had it in the water yet and the a80 didn't have it. Thanks in advance for any thoughts! :D

Even if you don't want to print large photos... More megapixels allows you to crop your photos more while keeping the final image size reasonable even. This original was 3072 X 2304 image size (7MP) (ive reduced it to 640X480 for fitting on screen)

Even after cropping the middle to make the second photo with plenty of size to spare.

I Hope this helps.

I missed your last part about the canon UW white balance setting... I think it works quite well... You should be able to toggle between it and auto while you're underwater right?

My wife (who shoots most of the stills) uses the UW setting on her S70 and it looks good to me.
