If the differation in skill and knowledge level and the 'name' of the qualification amuses you, have a quick look at, these two.

PADI Advanced (open water)
BSAC Advanced (diver)

As a BSAC diver (among other certifications) it is amusing to see the confusion in the DM(1) once you get in the water. Actual ability compared to percieved.

(1) not so much of an issue in Europe or Egypt, but very noticeable in the USA.

I'll leave those interested to Google the qualification's overview.

I would like to know one thing only that I might learn on the "Underwater Model" specialty course.

How is it that models in diving photos never seem to have exhaust bubbles near them? Surely they don't hold their breath...

So when someone actually teaches one of these odd specialties, how is it decided what to charge and does PADI actually get money from it?
