My wife (and son) are certified, but only OW & nitrox. My wife tends to worry on the more challenging dives, but does not do anything to try and stop me...

Hey Terry,
Are you working for the insurance company? It smells like that. Just kidding.
It is going to be good info. to see the relationship between variables:D

Actually I'm a software engineer.

As boring as it sounds, data sometimes facinates me, especially when it's not what I expected.

I would have bet money that most of the the cavers and deep wreck divers would have been single, but I was completely wrong. Glad I didn't make any bets!

The first survey question should have been a dead giveaway that I was some type of engineer, since one of the options for "what kind of diver are you" was "non-diver"

Probably depends on what you are defining as 'deep wreck'. In the group I tend to dive with, probably 70% of us are either separated or single - not planned that way, just the way it worked out - that goes for the local club dives as well as the deeper offshore dives

How does the engineer type account for those that fall into more than one category?

Pick the one that suits you best.

There has been much research devoted to why men have a shorter life expectancy than women, but any man who has been married for a significant amount of time can tell you...they die sooner because they want[I/] to.

Seriously though, I think the greater number of married divers makes sense in terms of population distribution. But also with respect to the fact that diving requires a certain amount of discretionary income that may not always be available to a single diver. In our economy, unless you make a lot of money, it is hard to live on one income and have money left over for things like diving.

Your poll doesn't alow for answering in multiple categories- so... I am a technical wreck and cave diver- and single. I was previously a married cave diver- the only thing getting divorced did was increase the amount of cash I had to spend on diving (no more having to buy 2 of everything) and let me get back into salt water (the ex is afraid of sharks- and won't dive in the ocean).

I hear this a lot in cave country: "How do you control you ascent rate without a rock over your head?" and "Sharks are dangerous!"

Awesome
