thanks again to all the help, I'm beginning to think the excitement of having a new computer has definitely resulted in too many rapid hand movements to see all of the new data I was being shown, conservative movements it is next time

It's a programming problem known as "computers make very fast very accurate misteaks".

You move your hand one foot in one second, your computer's ascent rate is 60 fps or 18 m/s. With audible alarm, you average your sensor readings over some time and at some point decide whether to buzz it, or not. But the logs just log what is -- and then when you look at them later without applying the same averaging fudge, you see all those rate violations.
