hi, im trying to purchase a dive system and divers-supply.com has a nice package deal on a mares viper MV-MR12 regulator but its hard to find reviews on it. What do you guys think of it?
thanks zeph

The Mares MR-12 first stage is a good workhorse, but I'd take a pass on the Viper 2nd. For the same price, you might want to consider the Edge / HOG combo that is on sale on the same site: Hog Regulator

The Viper works well as an Octo but being totally non-adjustable it's not the easiest of breathers.

Try the Epic cold with HOG 2nd and use the Mares Viper yellow Octo.

Great ease of adjustability and smooth breathing.

The MR-12 is one of the oldest regs on the market (don't take that to be a bad thing), solid reliable first stage, no problems at all with it. If you are considering the Rover package I would suggest that you upgrade to one of the Mares octos rather than the Sea Elite one. Having 2 different brands, esp a house brand like SE, on a reg can make having it serviced some what of a challenge. Ideally you want to keep the first and seconds the same brand to avoid that issue, the guages don't matter.
