I just added one as a Octo and it buzzes under water as well. It appears to be getting better as I use it some. Breaths OK, just noisy.
what first stage are you using? I was told to only use protons with v32 first stage, because they are a matched set(because of no external adjustment) ?? :06:

A Zeagle/Apex but the IP is within specs so it should not matter.

This is BS :eyebrow:

All Current Mares 1st and 2nd are compatable

I know this is true, but I was told not to use a different brand FIRST STAGE,(different IP & airflow characteristics) do you have any info regarding this? or are you just going to say it's b.s.? :icon5:

i wouldnt complain about this reg if it was noisey above water (dry)only in the water do i care about its proformance, has been back two times to LDS , still making noise
now ive heard that Mares got a bad batch of poppet spring (2nd stage)that could be the culprit ?...... above water??????????

yes you could be right
it is a harmonic tone
i have a first generation mr22
it results in the adjustment of air flow from first stage to, and through second stage
i use to harvest sea urchens in nova scotia from october to april
and with all the unknowns where i was lol
man i made my sing
it sounded like a whale
i also have a jetstream second stage on a sherwood first stage setup to do the same
when i got home i tweeked them again to stop the noise
it has nothing to do with the performance of the reg
i also have a healthways sonic that worked in the same mannor
when the tank pressure reached 400 psi the first stage would start to buzz
built in warning system
hope this helps

Ok, so we're on the net... messages are blasting along lines to heaps of routers that get the coding from the packet of data and decide where it needs to go. The comptuer can look for info addressed to it's IP and ignore others.... Coool technology... Scuba ain't that fancy.

When some air at 145 psi hits the second stage... it is not encoded with a Mares or Sherwood or Apeks signature... it's just some air. The reg won't know, and either will you, as long as they use the same IP, or are adjusted to the same IP.

The only difference would be if you had say an inexpensive - low performance 1st stage, like a non - balanced scubapro, and slapped a high end second stage on it... the chain is only going to be as good as the weakest link... so if you are trying to get a ton of air out of this rig... may have a problem... Say at 150 feet you could air starve the 1st stage...

Aside from something like that - set the IP right, and if it has enough air out put so it can keep up with the depth and air demand - it will be fine. I defy anyone to tell what first stage is on a second in a double blind test...
