My Girlfriend has started diving in the Pacific Norwest with me, she has a Mares Proton 12 Reg (with the MR12T First Stage), the water temps around here are from 45-55 on average. My question is the CWD Kit necessary? If so where do I get it from, I can't findi it anywhere, also about how much is it? Thanks.

Hi,

You present a good question. I think it is not completely necessary, but it also can't hurt. If this is something that lurks in the back of your mind, then go ahead and do it. The enviornmental seal kit can be had at any of your local Mares dealers. If you like, send me private message with where you live and I can recommend a store close to you. Just keep in mind not all Mares dealers stock this kit, but I know a couple that do.

Cost for the kit should be apprx $60.00.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the prompt responce Zak, I know where the Local Mares dealer is around here, just trying to do some quick research. And to re-emphasize you guys have the best damn customer service of any company I've ever seen.

I dive with more than eight different Mares regs, and not one of them wears the CWD kit. My regs regularly see water temps below 50 degrees, and quite a few take place in water measuring below 40 degrees. Never once have I had a problem with any of them. I suggest that you learn as much as you can about cold water diving techniques, as that can be every bit as important as reg configuration.

My latest Mares reg is the new V42 Proton Metal. It has an amazingly small first stage, and the metal second stages are ideal for cold water diving. They are also great at combating dry mouth.
