The restriction in this cave, is it that small you have to take your equipment off? Is it possible with a small rebreather like the Evolution? If it is that small will have to use the new Armadila sidemount kit I have coming. Does the cave bottom out after 60 meters or is that the deepest anyone has gone?

the mouth of the cave was huge and penetrating it was no problem, it was finding the right ante chamber that was tricky. also lost my confidence and motivation as my primary light failed to light up. had to make do with a small backup UK light. i led while bobby followed, did about 70 meters penetration we entered the right chamber and had a magnificent time exploring the corridors. the passage had enough height 3m so we made sure not to silt out the bottom. we were at around 145-150 ft. at the end was small crevace that leads to another huge cavern that bottoms out at 215feet. i was using twins with a 40cu deco bottke and i could have easily fit through without removing my gear. it is quite small but i reckon anyone with good buoyancy and nerves of steel can get through without any trouble.

Bobby manas mapped this cave and says that at the bottom is a huge space, there is nowhere to go. Giant marble rays are known to congregate at the bottom. on the way back to the center of the cave we were greeted by the biggest marble ray i have ever seen easily as big as as a 6'x4' sheet of plywood. it was a medium sized juvenille but man was i freaked out. i saw it coming straight at me but it veered last min. that exp + narcosis made me almost wet my pants. then we decided to go to the right chamber and this was a little trickier and more disorienting. at the end of the passageway was a small crack which is yet to be explored, accdg to bobby its to small and risky to check out. total bottom time was 25 mins. at 70 ft we switched to our 50% deco gas and had to do most of our deco obligations in the rough water, it was an experience i will never forgot. i WISH i had my hids on this dive. will defintely come back when i have em

Why did you proceed with only your back up? You should listen to that small voice in the back of your head.... Glad you made it back ok.

true true, im fighting the urge to sign up for trimix classes:)

wait til you see your gas bill after the trimix class... you'll be selling your brand new HID for a couple weeks of helium fills... But why fight the urge to sign up for trimix? amazing how helium clears your head even at the 30-50m range.

BTW, what kind of gas planning did you guys do for this penetration? simple thirds, gas matching, ?
