No worries you're not the first to make that mistake, and it ain't no big deal anyway.

Hi Victor. Please look at the link (I believe 3 posts above this one). Look in the "Dive trip" section. There are information on dive trips organised by members of the local forum. Drop them a line if you are interested in any of the offers. The monsoon season has just ended and the East Coast of the peninsular is now open for diving. Try your hand on the many dive sites on the East Coast of the peninsular. Sipadan and Mabul is overkill and too comercialised in my opinion. Check out Ed_Dman's post. Tenggol Island is a good example of what I'm getting at. Happy diving and hope you enjoy the sun and spicy food. SELAMAT DATANG.

P/S- Here is a link to the Tourism Board if you need any information in regards to visa requirements or travel planing.

Tim
Thanks for the info.
Not sure if the posts mean that Tenggol is shut down in early april.
I hope not as that was looking very good as far as we could see from here.
Looking at all the beautiful pictures we are looking forward to the trip more and more.
I just hope my lack of a buddy does not curtail my diving to much.
I will try and contact the diver operators directly from here.

I will be there in early April, thinking about Teneggol and Lang Tengah. Have you any other sugestions we should look at. I hope to get about 8 days diving, if my other half allows, she is a local though we both live in the UK.
I hope to get her out for a dive while I am there.

April would be the time when most resorts located in the islands on the east coast of the Peninsular are open for business. In fact some are open for business as early as March. So no worries there. As for a dive buddy, no worries also if you go with a dive operator. There will be a few other divers on the same trip. You could have a 3 person buddy team. Check the "scubamy.conforums3.com" link for more information on dive trips. Cheers.

Hi Victor!

Sorry for the late reply, as I was in Redang! Well! Like what Tim said, by April, most of the resort on east coast will be fully opened. Lang Tengah is pretty good, nice and quite. Redang is also a good choice since your partner is not a diver yet, maybe she can try out Discovery Scuba 1st then pick up the course if she likes it.

As for Tenggol, I would say that it's a bit difficult for her. Moreover, there's not much to do except dive, dive & dive. It's more of a diver's paradise! :)

Please feel free to drop me a PM or mail me at edvin@oceanxplorer.com.my and I can work something out for you.

Happy Diving & Keep Those Bubbles Flowing!

Ah, Ed, in a way you're right, but only if one stays right *on* Tenggol Island.... You're forgetting that it's possible to dive from the mainland. For example, Tanjong Jara Resort in Dungun is a beautiful beach resort which offers special room + dive packages. Tenggol is just half an hour away by boat. The dives are morning-only two-tank dives at and near Tenggol, leaving plenty of time in the afternoon to spend with a non-diving significant other and to enjoy the outstanding facillities of the resort. The g/f can also try DSD while at Tanjong Jara Resort, or can snorkel in the bay while the divers are underwater, or can even spend the morning at the spa. Malaysians tend not to go in large numbers to Tanjong Jara as it's a bit pricey in respect to the local earning power, but even solidly middle-class Europeans find it very affordable, and in fact good value for the caliber of the place. I love to dive Tenggol, but think that a couple of days there is enough, especially with so many other islands in the Terengganu Marine Park that are worthy of a visit.

P.S. This recommendation is totally objective--I have no commercial interest in suggesting one Tenggol option over another. Just want to point out that there *is* more than one option

I am begining to look forward more and more to my trip. Planing 2 days diving on one of the nothern islands and 2 days in the south, probably Tenggol but we will wait until we get to KL before we make any final decisions.
For 2 days we will probably stay on the Island, I love to shore dive so if I can find a buddy I will hope to get a few evening dives in as well.
Looking forward to the sun on my back and the sea at my feet.
