I want to make some 4" X 8" dive slates. What material do I need to make one so the writing will be clearly visable under water?

It want be 4"x8" but I have seen people use old blinds and cut them up. They carried a grease pencil with them to write with.

A bit of PVC drain pipe works nicely. Cut to size and lightly sand the writing surface with fine grit sandpaper. Drill holes for bungee wrist straps.

If you don't want to wrist mount, you can heat the PVC - it will soften, and you can flatten it.

Old floppy disc.

This is an interesting concept for a DIY slate: http://web.mac/cobber/Trimix/decoslate/decoslate.htm

If you know someone who works at a Lowes/Home Depot the big overhead signs make great dive slates. They tend to change them out when there is a major reset and throw away the old ones.
