So they are ABS and not PVC? OK.
Ah, my mistake. Thanks for the correction!

I googled as I didn't know the difference and got:

"PVC is more flexible, but ABS is stronger and more shock resistant. ABS is better at handling severely cold temperatures, but it can warp with exposure to direct sunlight."

So maybe I got lucky anyway...

Somebody told me how to do it long ago, but I lost the communications detailing the procedure. I believe it involves this item:

Are you guys looking for slates in the traditional sense, like a wrist flip slate and/or a ridged pocket slate, or are you talking more about a pre-printed pages that you can zip tie into your wet notes (like if you want to supply pre-printed NDL tables, gas rate every 3 meters, MOD chart, whatever).

If the latter, yeah definitely just talk to your local quick printer about doing some printing onto a thicker "synthetic". Its basically plastic paper that is tear-proof and water proof but laser-compatible. Any decent size quick printer should be able to run your PDF on their digital press onto synthetic stock. You can still cut it with scissors or a paper trimmer and punch holes in it yourself using a single-hole punch. Synthetic stock can be as cheap as $1 per page plus printing costs.

I was wondering what type of material and printer I would need to print onto PVC Dive Slates.

I'd like to be able to purchase the plastic and create a slate with my own information.

Thanks for any help.
dive rite wet note so easy, i also use this work like a charm.

What sort of information?

I suspect you'll find it much cheaper and easier to use an alternative such as printing on paper or cardstock and then laminating or using wetnotes.
I have seen a lot of people say laminating is the best, but for some reason, within one or two dives, my sheets die, separate and get wet. Maybe I am too rough on them, but what are other experiences?

WAIT - what is this witchery you are talking? Synthetic paper????? THIS would be the answer. I don't necessarily want the HARD slates, but something I could customize as I need. NOW, I have to search on this and start talking to local print shops. Thanks for this information.

There are small companies that make small plastic ID Cards.

A few years ago I had some small ID tags made for my dive gear with my name, emergency contacts and DAN Insurance number. It was inexpensive if I recall. I attach them with a zip tie to my inflator hose.

The company is in the UK. I will look for their details and share if you are interested.
This also. I use to work at a shop where I had access to an ID Card Printer and did this for a lot of things, but wasn't diving at the time. I have since started looking for places that do ID Cards or small (one off) batches and haven't found a place yet. Almost just as cheap to buy a used (small) ID Card printer off ebay.

I've been out of that part of the print industry for quite a few years, so I don't have any particular brand to recommend, but for reference take a look at like some of the laser-compatible stocks that "Terraslate" offers as an example. They are heat resistant enough to run through a heat and pressure fuser of a quick printer's digital press (just a big copier), and the stock itself is waterproof and tearproof. A big enough quick printer might have something in inventory, and could turn around your pdf file into a waterproof print pretty easily. Its not going to be worth their time for what they charge, so be patient and kind and most printers will do little walk-in jobs like that anyway.

Xerox Revolution Never Tear. You can print on them using any laser printer
