Like many Leisurepro customers, I keep a wish list, and in the last couple of days I have received a barrage of e-mails from Leisurepro telling me that various items in my wish list had been reduced in price... all Sherwoods: Sherwood SR1, Sherwood Maximus, Sherwood Octopus, Sherwood SR1 DIN adaptor, even a Sherwood mask. I don't think any Sherwood product on my wish list hasn't been marked down drastically - some of them more than once.

Coincidence? Or should I be worried (given that I own a lot of Sherwood gear)?

Yes, you should be worried.

I am... received a couple more since posting about an hour ago... starting to look like a fire sale.

Could they be dumping it due to action taken by Sherwood? They might have told them that they can no longer sell their stuff after a certain date. Or.. they could be setting themselves up as a legit Sherwood rep, but they have to clear all their other stock first.

What is happening with Sherwood is the same thing that is happening all over the country, domestic small to large manufacturing businesses are folding or outsourcing or selling off due to high capitol gains taxes and cooperate taxes, high cost of labor and specifically the lack of a stable and predictable health care sources (read as expensive to company and employee) for their employees. Brand names are being sold for the value of the name and the new ownership then will outsource to India and China. Meanwhile all the small businesses that both parties claim are so important are mostly burger flipping and service industry that pays low wages and no benefits and produces nothing of sustainable or tangible value. Sherwood is in trouble, they just closed and reorganized various manufacturing facilities.

Too bad they haven't reduced price on their valves. Their K5000 valve is perfect for bare-tank breathing, I was hoping I could pick one up for <$50. Oh well...

It is a real devil's dilemna - score a load of cheap gear, or steer away from a company that may stop selling spare parts if it goes bust?

Maybe Sherwood is calling in their credit markers to pay the CEO a mega bonus and LP decided to sell off their product to pay what they owe instead of using thei banked resources. Unless someone on the inside has real info. I wouldn't sweat about. Could also the CFO calling in credit and planning to embezzle the money and breaking the company in the process. Who know: unless some formal press announcement is made it's all speculation.

What the heck is bare tank breathing????

He's being funny and referring to another thread. Truth is, it would be better to knock the K5000 off the tank with a sledge hammer and see how many breathes you can get off the escaping gas as you ride the tank across the pool.
