Just to let you Boston'ers (is that a word) know, I helped out my instructor this weekend with OW Check out dives and we had a student that 1/2 way through the course landed a job in Boston. On Sunday I pointed her to this board. She really wants to get out and dive more, and I hope that once she is settled that she will visit us and maybe get some dives in. All in all ..

I don't care if we Tri-State board members start our own NDL chapter or not. SO if anyone is interested let me know so we can get a count. Then maybe once or twice a year we can hang out with those New Englenders .. haha just kiding .. just let me know what you think.

Hi all, I'm glad to find this board. I've been diving 10 years OW, I dive with the NEAQ dive club(in the summer) and United Divers of NH. Just thought I'd introduce myself as always looking to do new dives, old dives, etc.. I will be getting a camcorder housing this week and will switch my focus to underwater photography so if anyone is into that please let me know as I want to start learning it soon. I live near Manch/Concord NH and can dive every weekend. I like to dive Newport/Jamestown in the late summer/early fall. If anyone wants to do a fish collecting dive/seine netting in the late summer for stray tropicals let me know, hence my name (NHreefer = saltwater aquariums), I would love to organize one. I think this board should be for everyone, I plan to take movies and publish them to the web so all can see how interesting N.E. Diving can be. Hopefully I will be posting some by next weekend. :)
Look forward to seeing this board grow.
Later all, Chris

I'm sure we'd all love to have you dive with us, and participate in New England diving discussions, but as mshieldsdunn and Spectre have said, the point of having the regional group is to foster comradery and participation, and to give us a forum to discuss local sites, experiences, and issues.

How often would you be likely to come up to Cape Ann for an after-work night dive? How would you feel about meeting in Maine, Cape Cod, or Block Island on a given saturday morning?
Does that sound like a local activity, or a road trip?

If you think you'd be able to be an active New England Diver from New York or New Jersey, that's great, and I hope to see you, but it sounds like a long way to travel regularly.

Again, I think we'd all be happy to have any of you from outside the area join us (in the water or the forums) anytime, but I don't think expanding the New England region would add any real value, especially since you can jump on the board and chat with us, or join us for a trip whenever it's convenient for you without having to do that.

Everyone is certainly welcome in the forum... any forum... even men in the women only forum :D

But I think Ladydiver mentioned that a NDI chapter would consist of a group of people that regularly get together to dive... Like spectre said... and I agree... anyone that feels they will make a monthly dive, or more often, is welcome to join our chapter no matter where they are located. So I think it should remain a New England Chapter... and therefore a New England Forum. I just don't think most people in NY, NJ, PA, etc would make a monthly trip to be a regular participant. If you think you would do such a thing, I think you would be the exception. We would certainly welcome you into the New England Chapter....

If there is enough interest.... a Mid-Atlantic Chapter could form.

The NDI chapters are not up and running yet.. as far as I know... but I think they should be 'geographic'.. I think if you normally dive in New England, then this would be the chapter for you.

Hopefully I am not offending anyone... that is not my point... I just feel that a chapter would have regular get-togethers... whether they are meetings, dives, cookouts, whatever.... and the members should be able to attend semi-regularly.

Ken

Um... OK guys, I have to admit, I AM A YANKEE FAN. CT is pretty darn close to those darn NY'ers. I couldn't help myself. Derek Jeter is so damn cute! Anyway, I am still a New Englander no matter what your hokey NH definition is! Are you still gonna let me come out and play with you?

by the way, what is the NDI? Did I miss something? I was travelling last week, come home and missed the commeration of the New England Forum!!! What did I miss???

Thanks, although I question your sincerity due to your smile graphic chioce...
