Hi Guys,

Glad to see you found your little niche here. As far as who, what , where, etc. That is up to each group. If the folks for the Mid-Atlantic area want to form a local group, that would be great. If you all decided NY and NJ are close enough, they can be part of the New England group. Doesn't make a difference to me, as long as everyone is diving and having a good time.

When you come up with an official name, let me know and I will change the forum name to the club name.

New England...North East...whatever, ya'll are still Yankees to us Texans and ya talk kinda funny, too! LOL! ;)

Congratulations...I hope ya'll have as much fun as we're having down here!

Well Diving New England isnt to bad.
It,s the shrinkage factor that sucks in these cold waters.
Thank god things look 33% bigger under water. lol

Well for one I am neither a Yankies or Jets Fan .. only Hockey here and the Rangers All The Way!! Sorry Bruins Fans!!!

Personal I was thinking North East Divers or something to the fact might suit us better because if we add the number of board members that are from NY, NJ, MA, etc .. we just might equal the number of Texans ... =)

Just a thought, or then again we can just start our own also.

First off, I have no affiliation with this board other than as a registered user. I have no authority and everything from this point forward is just an opinion.

Should this board be dedicated to New England, or to the Northeast?

I really think its the guys from NY/NJ (and I pre-emptively apologize for those I have excluded) that need to decide whether they want to be part of our board.

What do you want the board to be like? Is it just a place where you can post a question about whether a piece of gear is appropriate for cold water diving? A place where you can get some info on Cape Ann for that three day weekend you're taking to get away from the city? In short...if the board IS the community, then heck...lets expand it to include the people that want to join.

On the other hand, I don't see the board as an end to itself...I look at Wreckmania or Cape Ann #2 and for me...that's the point of the board...a platform for putting people of similar interests together so that they can do what first brought them to the board...scuba-diving.

In my mind, the community/friendship part of the board is just as important as the "which Apeks reg should I buy" part. I learned more about Jeff (Spectre) and Ken (raxafarian) and had more good laughs in .5 day with them than I could have gotten out of 100+ posts. That is a good use of the Internet in my mind.

So...the question is...will the quality of the board change when you expand the geographical region to the point where it is not reasonable to expect that people will be diving with one another on a regular basis?

In my mind, yes, but again, I want to stress that I don't for a second presume that others share my pre-conceived notions about what the purpose of the board is.

One board...two boards...whatever. I am going to vote for whatever gets us all out and diving more often, more safely, and with more fun!!!

Just my $.02

It's not about the board... There is no restrictions on who can read what, and who can post where, whoever wants to participate in the New England forum is perfectly willing.

However as far as the NDI group, we start to get into basically geographical issues. Part of the point is to have the board as a medium to facilitate getting together and diving, and to share the dive experiences with everyone.

So this gets down to the getting together part. What does it take to be part of the New England NDI chapter? Participation. Does it have anything to do with your geological location? Well, only in the sense that if you aren't local, how many posts about the visibility at folly cove can you stand? :)

Do we have a membership list? Nope. As far as I'm concerned, participation is the key to being part of the group, and that is completely in each persons individual control...

So what's my vague opinion? Participation == membership... but if you don't show up at the dives, you don't get a chance of getting yourself an official edible hat! :)

Spectre raises a point that I should have made more clearly.

Obviously, the board itself is open and the more who read it/post to it...the merrier. Having grown up in Dallas, I religiously read and have come to enjoy the adventures of the Swamp Divers.

I was using the blanket term 'board' to refer to two different things - the actual board, as well as the underlying NDI chapter for New England.

Hopefully, no one thought I was discouraging participation from reading/posting to the board.

If so, I apologize...again...the more the merrier.
