Hi,

I'm currently looking to purchase another 2 reg sets for my kit, but am a bit stumped on what to go for at the moment, and am looking for advise, suggestions and critisisms.

In the past I've used Dacor Viper Tec's which have served me well. However I'm having an awful problem with getting service kits, etc via the supplier in our country rescently (I guess being a discontinued model doesn't help), and are looking for alternatives.

I thought about the Poseidon xtreme regulators, but have also heard interesting remarks about these (family business being sold recsently, etc).

These regs will be used in cool conditions (6 degrees celcius up) and at depth too, (looking for something that delivers well at 60m+).

In short - I was wondering what recommendations you have for a regulator set (keeping in mind that I'm after the 2nd stage to have side exaust).

Thanks in advance

Adam.

I have heard the same thing regarding Poseidon's business being sold...but who is to say that isn't a good thing? I have used Poseidon's for better than 20 years and my only negative has been, depending on where I lived, having to send them off for service at a qualified shop. I now send mine to ScubaToys, and they do an excellent job. The new ownership might just boost their previously lacking commercialization of product outside of Europe. Speculation...but it isn't always good to assume that because the family sold the business...things are going to go downhill.

Anyway...I don't know what kind of diving you do...I use an Extreme/Deep 90 setup for my primary tech on a 7' hose and a Jetstream/Odin as my second set. Both are side exhaust. The reason I have the Jetstream vs. another extreme as the second is that the Jetstream has a predive switch that can be set to "-" while it is dangling around your neck, and it won't freeflow. The Extreme does not have this feature. If you have seen a Poseidon freeflow you will see the value of being able to ensure it doesn't happen.

I know some complain about service, etc., but I have never had a malfunction with any Poseidon product...they are excellent regulators, especially on deeper dives (I have had mine over 200') as well as excellent cold water performers. That is enough for me to continue using them. You can check with them...but ScubaToys is an authorized dealer for Poseidon...and buying from them gives you a 49 dollar repair rate with free parts. Granted...they have to be shipped to them for service unless you happen to live in the Dallas/Ft Worth area.

The only other side exhaust I am personally aware of in current production is the Aqualung Kronos, and I know they make a cold water model, but I have no idea regarding performance on deep diving. Best of luck!

$349 for one set of Jetstreams, $299 per set if you buy two or more. I doubt you could beat that price.

Had I not just bought new regs all around for my doubles rig I'd have a few of these.

Wow...that is a good deal. Both the first and second are Poseidon made for DiveRite...but with this setup you get the Jetstream second stage on the Duration 1st stage (usually offered with some of the Extreme models) instead of the Odin. Good deal for the price.
