I stumbled across this thread. Normally I inhabit the Cozumel forum. It gets a lots of posts like this one only there are about 3x the number of dive ops there as opposed to Caymans. To try to help people who post such threads we usually ask for clues: are you looking for a large boat with a head or something smaller and faster..snacks or not, steel tanks or aluminum, valet service or carry and rinse your own gear. Extended bottom times or more precise schedules. How does the op handle divers low on air? All up together or send up as they get low. The latter is probably more important where it is exclusively drift diving and where dive guides are required within the Marine Park. Etc Etc. you get my drift... just a suggestion on how to help narrow down choices.

MMM,

Thanks for the info, I agree with all points made. Am in Cozumel right now, had five days of great shore and boat dives, weather perked up a bit today so no dives... Spent two weeks in Cayman end of February, awesome shore dives and boat dives.

Quick review on dive-op Cayman Turtle Divers.

Think the exact opposite to the cattle boats! This is a small boat, I'd say 8 people. Just the Captain Chris and his DM.
IOW, up close and personal.

Chris brought us to dives that catered to us so far - not too deep, not much current. A nice change compared to the "big boats".

There's something like 35 dive ops. Never seen so many concentrated in so small an area.

BTW - the Kittywake dive is quite the treat. Just did it this afternoon.

Been very windy & stormy this week, however, yesterday the weather finally broke.

Capt Chris asked me if I wanted to do a night dive, from shore from Cracked Conch. I sure said yes. The "other group" that wanted to night dive bailed - that left just me. The DM, JT, said he go anyways with me.

Having just did 6 dives with him, how could I pass up? Was beautiful, eery, lots of bio-luminescent phytoplankton. Didn't see any turtles, but a big eel swam between us, and a huge sea slug nearly 2 feet long and some 8 inches thick.

We surface swam to the floating white bucket, went down, explored, and stayed UW right back up to the entry point, hugging the bottom.

Had the weather, especially the high winds (30 knots + at times, waves of 4-6 feet, sometimes 5-8), Chris would have brought us diving along the North wall. Due to the small craft warning in effect, we stayed for all 3 boat dives in the seven-mile beach area, where the waves stayed small.
