London area - St Mary's quarry?

- novice diver, stuck in London ON area during the week, looking for nearby dives -

I've done Innerkip, I did Tobermory (great!), and I'm looking for more places nearby. Anything in St Clair river (drift dive, shipping lanes) is too advanced for me yet.

Looking at St. Mary's (near Stratford) but don't have much info about it except what's on the tourism website (nothing about diving).

Anyone dive there? What's the depth? Viz? Anything to see?

You could try Gildenburgh in Peterborough, it is only 90 mins by car, and is not a bad place to dive. There are various vehicles etc that have been sunk. They are:

3m......car
14m....boat
15m....skyvan
16m....double decker bus
18m....barge and a jet provost
20m....coach
22m....deep dive platform

there are other platforms at 8m

Vis is usually quite good, but you will need to dive a drysuit as water temp is very cold.
Entrance is £6.00 per diver and you will need to bring your cert card.

We have deeper, Stoney cove in Leicestershire has a max depth of 33m, but Dorothea Quarry In North Wales has a max depth of 100m in places.
Many people have died at Dorothea as there isn't a dive centre there, divers just turn up and dive. They are in fact trespassing.

The thing is, we have a place called St Marys Quay & that is near Stratford..... Stratford in England that is!

Quarry apparently is open for scuba diving; used to be a popular sport quite a few years ago - don't know about now - yet. Admission fee is charged.

Also - the Elora Quarry is open for diving Monday - Friday 10am to 12noon; must sign waiver forms and pay admission fee.

Gilboa Quarry in Ohio is 120+ft. Too bad it's so far to drive (about 5 hours for us).

There is a quarry south of Madoc on Hwy 14.

It is free. No waiver. Easy put in.

Oh yeah. It max's out at 15 ft.

There is half of a truck tho' and some catfish.

Kids like it...
