I wouldn't be upset, in any way, if this reduces the number of cruise ships docking in Cozumel.
Yeah, my thought was it should be $400.

Add another hand in your pocket.

Given that the law itself reportedly allows you to pay it anytime during your stay before departure how are they enforcing you to have it on arrival? Based on those pics it appears to be random people being approached else there would be a line a mile long and a secure checkpoint.

Don't the airlines add this to the fees they charge passengers flying in/out of Q. Roo?

Nope. "Enforcement" has also been completely random with vague, and empty, threats. Airlines don't check to see if you've paid at any point of contact with you. We've just ignored the Vistatax people at the airport when we've seen them.

That article looks like just another Travelkore sponsored scare tactic trying to frighten people into paying them the tax.

So they set up a little booth in the airport where you can just stop by and ask them if they want some of your money? How convenient! :D

Yup. And they will walk up to random travelers and try and scare them into paying.

I have no idea how a Canadian company was awarded the contract, by the government, to collect the tax. Or, maybe I do 🤔
