More controversy at World Class Asipona (Fonatur) Marina. The new administration is not allowing Emergency Services (Ambulance) to park at the boat launch area as they have been since the marina opened. Yesterday a diver lost his life due to the fact of no medical services available on site. It took over 30 minutes for an ambulance to arrive to the marina. F4LL3C3 TOURIST IN MARINA ASIPONA DUE TO NEGLIGENCE [] The new administration of MARINA ASIPONA removed, some time ago, from the Marina the two ambulances that for years stood guard at those facilities.
Today a tourist lost his life due to lack of medical attention. Unofficially, two versions have been given. The first is that the tourist was diving, felt ill and returned to the boat to ask for an ambulance. The second is that he decompressed and the boat returned to the Marina. The tourist WAS ALIVE when they arrived at Caleta ASIPONA, however, the ambulance took more than 30 minutes to arrive at the Marina.
The Navy must have ambulances at all times.
Witnesses stressed that the security personnel of the ASIPONA Navy DO NOT KNOW ABOUT FIRST AID.
Testimony: "I was relieved and there were no ambulances nearby because the ones that were inside the marina were removed because they are privatizing the marina and they don't pay for the stay and then when something happens, they put up thousands of obstacles to get the ambulances in."
Situations like this one show the ANOMALIES and lack of experience to manage a TOURIST COVE, a cove that is now collapsing, due to the mistreatment of boat owners, the staff who work there and that AFFECTS THE TOURIST, the water that is provided to them, is often non-existent, or the pressure is very low. Added to all this are the new rates that ASIPONA will charge in 2025 and that will be unaffordable for boat owners.
The decisions that have been made at MARINA ASIPONA are not in line with the needs of the sailors, are not in line with the tourist service that is offered, are not in line with the first-class island that Cozumel is sold as a tourist destination.
The sailors, the tour operators, have been saying all the problems they face, but they are not listened to, the MARINA ASIPONA needs a local administrator, with the knowledge and human treatment for its functionality.
In the video you can hear how they are more concerned about not having anyone record the video, and prohibiting access if they do record, than the same life of the tourist.

Just another day at World Class Asipona (Fonatur) Marina.
I believe there was supposed to be a meeting concerning the proposed increase in slip fees, any word on how that came out and how much they want to increase the fees?

One of the first things he claims he will do after taking office is to slap a 25% tariff on all Canadian goods imported to the US. That has a lot of our businesses extremely worried they won't survive without the US market & that effects the value of our $$$. He also claims he'll add it to most items imported to the US. Get ready for some major price increases on foreign made consumer goods. I can't imagine there are very many US made goods in a Best Buy store. Gun shops however should be OK.
Although I suspect that I agree with you in most (all?) respects this thread is veering toward politics which gets posts deleted and threads closed.

Cozumel's economy is affected by the value of the US dollar as (I think) most other Caribbean destinations are. As the US dollar becomes stronger the other currencies diminish in value. Trumps 25% tariff threat applies to Mexico too which will devalue the Peso. Our Mexican friends will have less buying power while US travelers will have more. Back around 83 or 84 it coste me $1.65.5 Cdn to buy $1.00 US. Divemasters had to be very impressive to see big tips that trip.

Auto parts go back and forth over the border up to eight times before being put in the finished product. Imagine all the tariffs that will be added to the cost of a car.

Yup. Tariffs are an excellent way to import & export inflation.

Well this may very well reduce the number of cruise ships heading to Cozumel and other Mexican ports. With about 4.1M pasengers last year this gringo tax would pull in close to $200M USD next year, just from Cozumel. I suspect the cruise lines will start more port visits to other Caribe destinations. Like the near $50M in gringo taxes at the airport, and the marine park fees, these funds do not stay on island but go to Mexico City.
