Yup. And they will walk up to random travelers and try and scare them into paying.

I have no idea how a Canadian company was awarded the contract, by the government, to collect the tax. Or, maybe I do 🤔
The ex governor Joaquin who implemented the tax is now the ambassador for Mexico and living in Toronto. The travelkore company is in Toronto. Doesn't take a taco stand owner to figure things out.
 
Don't the airlines add this to the fees they charge passengers flying in/out of Q. Roo?
Federal fees are collected by airlines because they are forced to as airports are under federal jurisdiction. This is a state money grap and the airlines told QR to go f**k themselves when it started as it would set an unacceptable precedent

It would be like Texas implementing a visitor fee and expecting the airlines or ICE to collect it for them.

If Texas were to do that they would also try to figure out how to tax anyone flying through the state's air space whether they landed or not. :D
