Loading slow?

I quit using IE years ago when my new laptop kept crashing. Toshiba & Microsoft kept pointing at each other with no end in sight. Friend suggested using Firefox and I did and problem went away. Stayed with it ever since.

I am noticing the site is now loading slow as molasses whenever I refresh, click a thread, click a subforum, post or what-have-you.

Is there something going on? It's WAAAY laggier and slower than it used to be.

Just for an example, the forum home page is about 1MB, consisting of over 600K of images and over 300K of javascript, and requiring about 80 HTTP requests in order to render in the browser. On a full T1, this takes about 20 seconds to load. Each page takes (by my best guess) dozens of database requests.

And this is for one page. For one user.

It's not surprising that it's slow, it's surprising that it runs at all.

I had to stop using Chrome at home due to an AVG conflict that killed my system and now use FireFox......but at work it is IE and Chrome (Chrome is no better for me today)

Thx, I thought I'd noticed something but maybe not. Do you block any ads?

Clicking on the silver Forum button from here til it loads. (manually counting 1000-1 etc.) - 4 seconds
Site Support Forum load time - 3-4 seconds
Clicking your reply in this thread til it loads - 12 seconds.

Edit: time to save this post - 2 seconds or less.

Sorry Steve - I was off reading about how dangerous Cave Diving is and why it should be banned!

I block a few ads - that may help.

Still 20+ seconds to load the Forum Menu (time from clicking Forum -between Home and Scuba Chat- until the page is done loading)

Other operations are either fairly quick (less than 10 seconds) or hang up and don't work on that particular click. I find after 30 or 45 seconds, just stop the page load and start over. It is generally faster that way.

I'm not complaining - just giving you a small sample of data.
