We're here- and diving on Island Sister today. It will be good to see Ron again.

Tell Ron Carolyn's crew from Florida says "HI". I am sure you will have a great time. You can't miss when you are at Little Cayman Beach Resort!

I love the diving on Little Cayman (just got back from LCBR about 3 weeks ago myself). The swimthroughs are great, and the hard pan is great for the best safety stops in the Caribbean. Glad you had a good time, too.

We made a sign, mainly blue in color, that is hanging in the bar, way up high above the first fan on the left, if you are facing the bar from the pool area. It says Carolyn's crew on it. I have a picture, but still can't figure out how to post it!

Check it out!

We are planning to go to LCBR in 2009. I have heard folks saying there were problems with heavy luggage not arriving until the next day and that Cayman Airways is inconsistant with their policy enforcement - do you know what the current weight restriction is on Cayman Airways? I don't see it on their website. We usually keep it under 50# anyway, but I'm curious. It would be pretty bad not to have dive stuff with you until day 2. Thanks!

The weight limit on Cayman Airways is 55# total checked, which means you can have 2 bags that weigh a total of 55#. Then you can have a carry on weighing no more than 15#. In Tampa, Cayman Airways is a stickler on the 55# checked. The couple in front of us had 4 bags each weighing over 55# (they were going to Brac) and they paid $100 in overweight baggage fees. Can't imagine what was in the luggage. It was an older couple, so maybe they lived in Brac and needed the stuff.

Sorry to digress....we had our luggage delayed in 2004 on our trip to LCBR. However, it came in on the first flight of the AM from Grand and the boat graciously waited for us.

Join us in June 2009!

Cayman does post their baggage restrictions on their website but I just wanted to clarify. We were allowed ONE 55lb bad per person and one 15 lb. carry on per person.

Wear cargo pants/shorts and load your pockets with cameras, ipod, etc. No one weifghs you personally and you'b be suprised how much you can get in your pockets until you get on the plane. Then, slip them into your carry on for the flight.:eyebrow:

I had thought it was one bag weighing up to 55# also, but someone in our group had 2 bags. The ticket agent said it was up to 2 bags with a combined weight of 55#. First I had heard of that. We just go on the 1 bag %%3 theory, 1 backpack 15#, and lots of pockets!

Brand new to the Board, not an experienced "forum" person. Currently at Roatan Is. Honduras at a disappointing 14-day all-inclusive dive "resort" which we nicknamed "dive camp". Rooms shabby, small, run down, boat hard to dive from, no atmosphere and very little overall communication. First couple of days power off and on and had to fill trash cans with water from the shower to get the toilets to flush. The food is good, and diving sites good as well as the divemaster and boat capt. but it is off-set by the rest and we LOVE to dive. Today I did my 300th dive. We are interested in doing about a 10-day Christmastime dive trip, also looking for an all-inclusive (room, food and diving). Would you recommend it without hesitation? What is the cost? Thank you, Sheryl (sdaymon)

I am guessing you are at CocoView. Very interesting place.

I would definitely recommend LCBR. Our sixth trip was in Jun 2008 and we already have a trip planned to return there in Jun 09. If you are at CocoView, the difference between the 2 is night and day. Don't get me wrong, Roatan has as many devoted divers as Little Cayman. However, I am at a point in my life where I relish the valet diving service.

I cannot say what the cost is at Christmas time although I believe it is high season and a lot of the rooms are already booked.

If you want info about the trip we have planned in Jun 09 to LCBR, PM me.

Carolyn

We just got back from Utila in April and although it's different in a lot of ways, the Accommodations you described in Roatan are probably similar to what we experienced.

No worries though, it was a totally different dive experience from Little Cayman.

Be warned, the price for the vacation is also totally different. We've been both places twice and find that a week in LC is double a week in Honduras, maybe more.

Well worth the price of admission, but again, be prepared.

PS- Carrie, you're right, Cayman Airways does allow two bags per for the major flights. The one bag restriction is for the inter island flights. You're friend got lucky I think, but I wouldn't try it unless you want to leave one bag in Grand while you spend the week[-][-][/-][/-] in LC
