Lionfish report

There is speculation that cornetfish feed on lionfish leading to some balance in the Red Sea. Could cornetfish be introduced and propagated in Cozumel?

That would introduces another predator that will need to be controlled. I do not think that would be the best solution however I do NOT know.....just my opinion.

Just got back from a long weekend in Coz, 8 dive and no lionfish sightings. Thhat makes 22 dives in Coz for me this year and 0 sightings.

I just got back from a week in Coz. I was there from Sep 27 to Oct 4. In one dive we saw 2 lionfish. The DM caught one and brought it back up before destroying it (he asked the women and children to close their eyes). The second one could not be caught, it went under a rock before the DM could catch it. There was a professional videographer with us on that dive and I have a copy of the video I am trying to edit it to the show the fish. I will post it here when I am done.

Maybe it's just me, but I've never been on a dive in COZ where the DM forced me to stay exactly with him/her the whole dive. A DM going after a lionfish would not affect me or my dive at all. Hell, I'd up his tip for catching it.

We just got back from a week in Coz, out of 20 dives saw 4 lionfish the whole week. Our DM caught the first one in a plastic bag (it was a baby), my daughter and I ran into another one a couple days later, couldn't catch it as it was bigger and it backed into a notch in some coral and we couldn't flush it. The last two were biggies, we ran into them by that big cement block towards the end of the Villa Blanca wall dive. They were in between the block and the sand build up behind it, we tried to flush them but the current was pretty strong that day, it was about all we could do just to hang onto something, much less try and kill a couple of fish. Candidly, given what I've read here, and what we heard from the DM's all week, I was surprised we didn't see more of them. And we were looking pretty actively.

Hey its ROMEO, We met at Los Otates on Monday. Me and my daughter also saw two lion fish, Friday and Saturday. Caught both and it is at the dive shop in a bucket of water for all to see. Pretty hard to spot these fish, you have to be looking for it and they are not big at all. we are so lucky to see them.
