Sounds really like you have brushed up against some Corallimorpharia. This a soft Anemone and in some cases looks like shag pile carpet all over the reef. There is lots and lots of this at a few dive sites in PNG and Indonesia and am very familiar with it.
As you described you can roll it today and feel fine however approx 24 hours later oh the pain and itching and these is nothing you can really do about it but wait it out (maybe some cortisone cream)
