Perhaps it is because most of their back channel supply chain is from the E. U. and as such they are forced to buy products base on Euro currency as opposed to more traditional (i.e. non-gray market/authorized) dealers who will get better pricing (i.e. dollar-based rather than Euro-based wholesale costs).

Perhaps... but I think it's more of a crack down on their supply channels that I know are actively being pursued. When it comes down to it... even if you're an authorized dealer, most the stuff is bought in Europe. My Mares & Dacor, Cressi Sub and Scubapro come from Italy. Tusa from Japan, etc. Aside from Aeris, Atomic and Zeagle... not much comes from the US.

I'm curious... did the dollar have roughly similar difficulties during the high deficit spending of the 1980's?

I like to see patterns.

volker cranked interest rates up to 20% in the early 80s so that treasury bonds were extremely attractive investments, and he got monetary creation and inflation under control. not a good comparison to today, where 30-year interest rates are 5%.

if you want to look for recent historical similarities, the late 60s / early 70s spending on vietnam and the resultant stagflation is closer. i believe we're actually worse off now than we were then with more of a trade deficit and more debt at all levels now.

I placed an order for some equipment through LeisurePro and it has been a nightmare. I ordered over $1,000 in items on-line. They called shortly after and said my credit card declined. I had them run it again as I have ample money available on my card, they ran it again and said it went through (of course) and they will be shipping my order. One day later I received an email saying my credit card was declined again! I emailed them telling them to cancel my order! four days later they emailed me saying "are you sure you want to cancel there is nothing wrong with your credit card".
As far as prices go I thought they were pretty fair. The items that I thought were high I ordered through www.123scuba.com not a great site but have some good prices...
