Hello there. I know that there have been MANY complaints about Leisure Pro. I recently went to their store in Manhattan and to be honest nothing i saw in there was fake. I highly doubt they intended to rip anyone off.

just my little tid bit.

I have made many purchases (computer, masks, fins, lights, tank weights) from Leisure Pro, both via the internet and in-store. I have never had a problem.

Must be nice, I had to cancel my order that they refused to ship, because of other un-posted and unexplained 'company policies' that again in the real world make no sense.

Never again I tell you, never again!

To be honest, I simply walk over to LeisurePro if need anything (I work nearby). There have been other posts in ScubaBaord regarding LeisurePro and their practices so I decided to ask them which manufacturers are they authorized dealers of. The answer was an honest one ... none. They have provide their own warranties and, for that matter, service. In fact, they have a service department in back of the store (not too far from the elavator for those who have been there). ADORAMA/LeisurePro has been business for a while so their longevity probably is longer than your average LDS (I'm not sure what the average life is but I doubt if it's as long as ADORAMA/LP.

Perhaps some of their stuff is "grey market". They also buy closeouts from out of business LDS's. However, the majority is bought in bulk ... probably from the manufacturer. Do you think ScubaPro would say no to someone buying 100 fins or 50 regs? Some manufacturers won't sell to LP (case in point ... Halcyon) not because of service but because of the need to control retail prices.

What it comes down to is whether or not you are comfortable in buying "life supporting equipment" from them. LeisurePro is doing to the LDS what Walmart has done to ... Woolworth, 5 & 10, uhh Ames, Caldor ... maybe KMart post Martha ...

However, you can't get lessons nor dive trips from LeisurePro. So if you have dive store that needs to be supported ... then buy from LDS for certain items (e.g., big ticket service items). LeisurePro can't be beat for fins, masks, etc and other items ...

A quick analogy, I buy Pro VI golf balls from TGW but if I want new irons or woods I go to my local pro who can fit me and, perhaps, let me try them. The only problem I have is that my shafts rust at 50 feet....

Wow, I don't know that LP also has eBay store. Do you remember LP's username on eBay. I am just curious how and what they has posted.

I've bought stuff from Leisure Pro on eBay

I bought my first equipment at Richard's Aqualung in NYC and bought more at Diver's Cove in NJ.

Ah, Diver's Cove - that brings back memories! Do you still have your "Gorilla Diver" T-shirt (I got mine in 1981)?

pssssssssssst.... cmgmg.... he's using irony as a rhetorical device

I know ... just tried to get this thread up to the high road ... it's getting too serious.

I buy from ScubaToys, Leisure Pro, my LDS or wherever. It often has to do with what I'm looking for as well as the price. I wanted new Drysuit and my LDS worked out a deal on a DUI that was a bit cheaper than the online place I was looking at. I purchased my VEO200 and gauges from Leisurepro. I don't see a problem with shopping around. My issue with Gray Market items is, why should I have to pay more for something than my counterpart in Europe, Asia or freaking Timbuktu. I know it is all political but I think it is stupid........just my pet peeve....

Wrong...

I don't know about Timbuktu, but you should see how high the prices are for scuba equipment here in Europe. And I don't think there's much of a culture for bargaining.

Market economy? Here, not quite. Not for this stuff.

Bargaining is allowed even though not welcome at a LDS :eyebrow:

[Actually that's not exactly true, as they are dealers for Citizen, Apollo, Tusa , Sea and Sea to name a few which are listed on their websites.

I'm sure there are smaller companies as well like the accesory stuff.
