I was going to order a pair of Jet Fins and Spring straps from LP because my LDS dosnt carry them and I couldnt find them on scubatoys. I wrote to them asking sizing advice because this is my first time buying fins online and different ones seem to be sized different. I was less them impressed with the imformation I recieved but after all it was email, I havent called them as of yet. Im not worried about shipping time. Im worried the person who responded (to their credit, very quickly) actually knew what size I would take. Any advice? Mabe Im just being paranoid.

beside the covert and open antisemitic bend that this post is taking, I am apalled at the attitute towards LP. If you defend them, you MUST be an employee under a cover operation (another plot to take over the world may be?). If you attack/slur, you MUST be an honest diver/customer that got screwed by LP's business practices and certainly not an LDS owner (or affiliated to one) that is loosing business by the day because of LP/Scubatoys' existence and can't figure out how to turn it around. It's amazing that those who posted in favor of LP almost had to apologize for being satisfied customers and provide a disclaimer that one doesn't work for LP. Well, for those LDS owners that haven't realized yet, the internet is here to stay and LP, scubatoys and others will continue to exist, filling a need and a price point in the diving gear supply system and either they find a way to provide differentiated value (selection, service, not fear and guilt) to their customers or they will be out-priced. I know a great LDS that I will continue to patronize because they provide a unique service and I know some I will never set a foot in again. Such is the nature of business.

I've bought stuff from Leisure Pro on eBay - good stuff, and I still wish I could get a few more items like I got at those prices. They're like 47th Street Photo for dive gear - they operate on very low margins, provide minimal customer support, and deliver exactly what they say.
47th Street Photo was the first of the hyper-discounters for camera gear - you had to know EXACTLY what you wanted going in there on West 47th Street. Same thing with Leisure Pro.
I have no idea how they manage to keep their inventory so complete, but they do. They did not come beating down my door to do business with them - I sought them out. Read all the previous posts - you want to do business with them - fine; if not, hey that's fine also.

I wasn't even aware that 47th Street photo was still around. The original has some severe finacial problems a dozen years ago. I see that they are now in Brooklyn.
There seem to be two business models developing. Lowest Price/Minimal Service ala LP and Low Price/Full Service akin to ScubaToys or B&H. I am not a ScubaToy customer. I am speculating here about ScubaToys based on what I have read and from looking at their web site. Their store, at least from viewing via their many web cams reminds me of B&H. Because of its size, B&H can offer low prices and will usually match reputable competitors. ScubaToys appears very competitve and says they will match lower prices. B&H also offers good service. It is hard to tell strictly from its website but it is a good place to go in and ask questions of folks who know a lot about cameras and video. B&H also offers seminars and subsizes various courses. They understand the value of good customer relations (if in a very New York sort of way.) Scuba Toys also seems to put an emphasis on service. The LDS should probably feel far more threatened by ScubaToys than by LD.
I'd bet on ScubaToys but won't count LP out. Each has its place.

Pour qua, mon ami? I am a satisfied LP customer, do not live in NYC, and certainly do not work for them. I do not apologize for buying from them, nor do I apologize for buying on eBay, or from Force-E, Reefpoint Diving, Scuba Systems, or any other shop I have used in the last 35 years. I bought my first equipment at Richard's Aqualung in NYC and bought more at Diver's Cove in NJ. Both shops are now out of business. Some stores stay open, others do not. There are various reasons, and not every business closure is due to lack of sales. That is the nature of business.
