I have a set of regulators that I bought used from an LDS. They refurbished the regs before putting them out for sales. I got a set of Aqualung Titan LX and an Aqualung octo for $200. Pretty hard to beat.

Sell66,

Why don't you go to a couple of local dive shops and ask them if they can match LeisurePro's price? My LDS can't match LeisurePro's price but comes pretty damn close and at least I'd be covered with factory warranty not to mention that the LDS would do some tweaking for you free of charge just because you bought the gears from them. LeisurePro have great prices, but you need to know what the ramifications are. If all you want is the cheapest price possible, then go with LP. If you want a good price plus warranty coverage PLUS services then you should reconsider your position.

Annual services don't really cost that much anyway, and most of it is labor, so the free parts you get from having a ScubaPro warranty don't really mean much in the scheme of thing, but a good relationship with your LDS is something that you should consider establishing. There are plenty of good LDS around the LA area, so if you don't like one shop then check out another shop.

Let me tell you what having a good relationship with an LDS is like:

1. I was an idiot and forgot to put the cap back in the 1st stage and dunked it in water. My LDS disassembled the regs, dried it out, making sure that everything is working 100% again AT NO CHARGE. They could have and probably should have charged me for my stupidity, but they didn't.

2. If my whole regulator set were to have to go to the manufacturer for serious warranty issue, they would have lended me a set of rental reg at NO CHARGE.

3. If my computer were to conk out and they can't fix, they'd take another computer of the same make and model right out of their shelf and give it to me while they handle the replacement warranty issue with the manufacturer/distributor.

4. If any of specialty gears that I were to buy from them haven't arrived yet but I needed to go diving, they'd lend me their rental gears for free until my own came. Things like wetsuit or BC.

Let's see if LeisurePro or ScubaToy can do that for you.

BTW, this is Sea D Sea in Redondo Beach. As I've said before, not all LDS are that good or helpful, but the good ones are out there: Hollywood Divers, Eco Dive Center, Ocean Adventures, Pacific Wilderness (good but have goofy requirements for getting Nitrox fill from them).

PS Atomic Aquatics regulators are the shiz nit (in the parlance of today's hip hop youth), and they're local outfit. If you don't want your LDS to service your reg, you can send it directly to Atomic for refurbishment. Its head honcho is also known to make visits to the various shops and talk with divers to obtain feedback about Atomic gears.

My stand, support your LDS as much as possible. They SHOULD be providing you with more than just a place to get your gear and tank fills. Without your support they can't give back to you in the form of knowledge and experience.

I'm not saying don't buy used gear from people. After all, you have to take that gear to a LDS to get services anyways. I also understand people are on a budge so you have to look for the best deal.

I myself would purchase some things from a store like Leisure Pro, such as a gear bag, mask, snorkel, accessories, etc.

I would not buy my life dependent equipment such as a regulator or computer from them. I know thats where you can save the MOST money from them but I also realize that if the manufacturer places no trust in the person selling me my new gear I probably shouldn't either.

JMO, but I feel the main reason for the strong stance by manufacturers is the agreements they have with the LDSs. And in reality it's posturing. If they really wanted to stop online sales they would buy some items and trace the source. I know my regulators have serial numbers. Hard to believe the online places can buy the quantities they do and the manufacturers can't find the source.

I did find it interesting that one manufacturer told me that rules prohibiting online sales may not apply to dealers outside the US. So I would be warranted if I bought the equipment that way.

This may work out just fine. You pay for overprice "life support" gear at the LDS while I enjoy the big saving by shopping elsewhere. As long as you spend enough there, they may still be there when we need an air fill. :lotsalove:

To the OP.......

IMO, if the savings is substanial(maybe $150??), get them for that cheaper price---over a 10 to 20 year period you'll not be getting them serviced yearly---therefore your 'warranty' thru SP is void & you'll not pay for the yearly parts therefore service costs----ie you'll be better off money wise over this longhaul......

I've had my SP Mk 10/ G200 regulators since the late 80's & still use them as my primary regulators ie for all my diving---have almost a thousand dives on them & they are still clicking along beautifully......

As someone else stated, what if you would buy a good used set, what kind of warranty are you looking @----none....Do the math & you'll see, remember the man that makes soap wants to sell soap....

I would call that more their "Public" position.

I think everyone pretty much understands that for LP to get as much SP and AL product that they do, that it involves manufacturer/distributor direct or indirect participation.

Interestingly, AL goes even further specifically naming LP.

Leisure Pro is NOT an authorized Aqua Lung dealer

Just something to throw out there. The agreements the LDS's have with the manufactors say that they can only sell for a certain price. They are stuck selling at that price....However they can do other things like one of my favorites free airfills for life if you buy a full setup and the tanks from them. Add this on to the fact that since LP is an authorized zeagle dealer so the prices where about the same, (I think actually a little cheaper at the LDS). You also get advice, dive buddies ect with the LDS.

So I quess what I'm trying to say is even they can't knock to much off the price for the regulator, I'm sure they can and will be able and willing to work with you on other things. If not go find a LDS that will or order from LP.

Just my 2 psi

it's simple.... Aqualung lies...

Leisure Pro is Aqualungs biggest "dealer".

Let me give you a perfect example.

when Aqualung came with out the "ACD" (Auto Closure Device) on their first stages, some of the bigger Aqualung dealers in the country couldn't get the product initially, but Leisure Pro had it on their shelves selling it first.

You can't do that without the manfuacturer/distributor shipping it direct to them. It might not have LP's name directly on the invoice, but they aren't stupid enough to do that. It's set up through a 'shadow company/shop'.

The reason that they don't disclose that is that they sell this 'kool-aid' to these dealers to carry the product as the higher prices and not to sell it on the internet. If they announced that LP was an authorized dealer, then they would have to deal with all these angry dealers and price margin drops on their gear.

That above announcment in the URL you posted is just to pacifiy dealers.....

The fact that no one knows where LP gets their equipment from is a major factor for me in deciding which gear to buy from them. The mere $200 more I spent on my computer and BC at my LDS was well worth it. I established a relationship with the LSD and because they value me as a customer they usually provide free or highly discounted tank fills as formernuke suggested.

Over time, the discounts I received for misc items I needed "on the spot" and couldn't wait to have shipped was well over $200.

I suspect there's some thruth to that.

If AL really wanted to stop LP and shut down that distribution channel it would be easy to obtain a few pieces of their own equipment from LP and trace where the sale originated....
